Launched in June 2011, Google+ is a social network that has attracted the attention of millions of marketers, users and companies. In just a few months, the platform amassed more than 40 million users, nearly one third of LinkedIn’s 135 million membership base.
Can this new network, with its improved feature set beat Facebook?
Well, we do not have an answer to this yet, but one thing is clear, that marketers and online businesses have been provided with a completely new platform to explore and leverage.
Why does Google+ Matter
Simple. Google+ allows businesses to create pages and develop relationships with prospects and customers on multiple levels. Individuals can add a brand to a specific Google+ Circle, share a Google+ page with their network, and interact with the content posted by that company.
Taking all this into picture, Google+, a brand that it is – definitely matters for businesses to make lasting connections with its customers online – the same way you can in real life.
Ways by Which Google Plus can Influence your Traffic
There are a number of ways Google+ can influence on how you get traffic from Google’s search engine. Let’s have a look –
Way #1 – Better Search Engine Results
Because of Google+, Google will be able to improve its search engine results pages through the enhanced information it will be able to collect from your social circle. If you have a very tight relationship with a small network or a broader network that you are less engaged with, Google could know to promote your tight relationships in search results or use ads over the broad network. Essentially you will ultimately benefit by having a business page on Google+
Way #2 – Improved Search Engine Quality
Another benefit that Google+ brings to search is that results become much harder to cheat. Those who are spammers, share and votes for things on one website and nothing else, have scores of unexplained +1s, then Google is suspicious and may consider them suspect. Google then discounts the value of such votes and encourages only relevant results.
Way #3 – Changing the Way you get Traffic
Like the FB and Tweet button, Google also rolled out its +1 button. These +1 buttons which can be embedded on other websites can affect the quality score on the page it sits. If you’re creating landing pages for paid search campaigns, and your pages have several variations, all of the +1 vote that you earn will be broken down separately for each address.
In a study by Hubspot, they looked at data from their entire customer base of more than 5000 businesses. They found that for websites that have Google’s +1 button installed, the result generated 3.5 more times traffic from Google+ than websites that don’t have the button installed.
So, if your business isn’t using the Google+ button/Page as yet, it’s definitely time to start.
